Monkey Wiki is a Wiki Engine written in the Python Language by Barnaby Scott :

([1]).

Monkey Wiki
http://www.waywood.co.uk/MonkeyWiki/style/monkey.jpg has been chosen because I (Jean Pierre Flandrois) wanted :

All the wikis of the Quantitative Microbiology team and Doctoral School "Evolution, Ecosystems, Microbiology and Modelling" were based upon Moin Moin
(see [2] for instance), but even if the newest versions of Moin Moin are very attractive, they appears too difficult to understand to me as the code is very heavy. I have also been using Twiki at the early beginning (5 years ago), but I dont speak Perl.

I hesitate to use Piki Piki a wiki engine by Martin Pool (see [3]), clearly the seed for Moin Moin and Monkey Wiki, and I tested it and read the code also ans I was very impressed, but Monkey Wiki has page templates and the possibility of static HTML caching. Piki Piki is installed on this server waiting for other projects.

Of course Monkey Wiki is lacking some features : for instance here only the members of the project are allowed to change pages, I have used a outside-wiki access control to the administration of the wiki. Uploadings are not done from the wiki, but this is not a major problem. Tables are not supported, but solutions are existing in Monkey Wiki, even not perfect.

Monkey Wiki Monkey Wiki Installation explains how I (Jean Pierre Flandrois) organize all on this web server.
